Detective Cat Donovan’s world comes crashing down when she finds her estranged boyfriend on a dating app, leading her to reopen her father’s unsolved murder. This will be the fourth adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel starring Richard Armitage. Less than half a minute into the first episode, the clichés of modern storytelling are served. The story is filled with clichés, predictable plot twists, and underdeveloped characters that make it difficult to invest emotionally. The main character’s motivations are superficial, and the supporting cast is largely reduced to stereotypical archetypes. The pacing feels uneven, with a slow exposition dragging out the first act and a rushed ending that resolves conflicts too easily. The dialogue is another weak point. Many of the jokes feel somewhat forced and unnatural. The actors’ performances are hampered by a script that fails to provide any depth or nuance. That’s all I have for you.. Season 2 of “Severance” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our January calendar for more details!
