Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned rodeo expert
Scenario
A Montana ranching family must defend themselves from invaders who want to take over their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and revert to his usual Southern California voice.

(Review covers the first two seasons only.) I watched the show not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting, and cinematography are great. It’s basically a Montana mob war with the occasional huge dose of testosterone (hunting by gun-toting cowboys on horseback)! Costner is a masterful actor in the lead role of the Duttons.
The show falters at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again halfway through
The show is at its best when it shows the chessboard moves of the Duttons and their enemies. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and plays a pathetic character, the plot falters awkwardly and the acting is just a bit lacking. I think Cole Hauser as Rip is perhaps the strongest actor (apart from Costner himself) and I looked forward to every scene that Rip was involved in.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot is suspenseful and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit more gritty and brutal than the title suggests, this show goes in a similar direction. I highly recommend it and wish I had watched it for as long.
